What you have in your CD-ROM drive is MacAddict's first of many discs that contains an avalanche of applications written for Mac OS X. There are a few things you should understand about this particular disc. The final version of Mac OS X was released on March 24, 2001. This disc was completed about a week after the release date. That means that many of the applications may be in "not-quite-complete" status, which means you may have to download updates from the Internet. All of the applications were tested on Mac OS X final so they should work, although there may be some bugs here and there. Finally, those of you who have not upgraded to Apple's new OS can still benefit from some of the Mac OS X applications. A lot of the applications have been "Carbonized," which means that it is possible for the applications to run under Mac OS 8.6 to 9.1 with the latest CarbonLib installed. You can download this extension from Apple's website. The only real difference is the application running on older systems won't take advantage of Mac OS X's advanced features.
That said, have fun with all the applications that have been submitted by developers who are embracing the new OS. It's an exciting time to be using a Mac, and we're excited about the future of our favorite computer.
